Precious Breastmilk
Laura Parker, Manchester, England, Mother of Two
I made a conscious decision to breastfeed both my children. Now I know this was completely the right choice and gave them the best possible start in life.
Breastmilk protects your baby
Breastmilk is rich in vitamins and minerals: no formula food can match this. Breastmilk is the most important thing a baby needs to develop healthily and grow up strong. Breastmilk also protects the baby from later infections. For example, it can lower the risk of asthma.

Breastfeeding strengthens the bond
Breastfeeding was the obvious choice for me. Not only is breastmilk free, it's always readily available, which is often a real relief - for the baby as well as the mother. Breastfeeding is simply a wonderful experience. My little Mark is not just growing up healthily on breastmilk, we have developed a unique bond with each other.
You worry sometimes
Of course, sometimes I was worried, like about not having enough breastmilk for Mark, but he gained weight well and my midwife reassured me. My husband was incredibly attentive too; I have such a great family. But I also like going out, and so that Mark wouldn't have to go without his breastmilk I chose a breastpump for days when I'm out and about.

A breastpump to suit my needs
My midwife also recommended I use a breastpump. I decided on Medela Swing, an electric breastpump which met my demands perfectly. With its 2-Phase Expression Technology it feels like my baby and I was also able to get a breastshield that fit me perfectly to make breast pumping even more comfortable.
