Join us February 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM (EST) for an informative webinar on Milk Sodium Testing: Clinical Insights and Applications. The webinar will be led by Sharon Perrella, Research Fellow with the Centre for Human Lactation Research and Translation and the Geddes Hartmann Human Lactation Research Group at The University of Western Australia. This session will explore normal and atypical colostrum and milk sodium concentrations throughout the lactation cycle and discuss practical applications of sodium testing to support clinical decision-making. Participants will learn how milk sodium testing can be applied and examine the potential benefits for clinicians and parents. The webinar will focus on evidence-based knowledge to help enhance lactation care and improve outcomes for vulnerable infants.

 

Learning Objectives

After completing this program, participants will be able to:

1. Identify normal and atypical colostrum and milk sodium concentrations across the lactation cycle. 

2. Describe applications of milk sodium testing in both the community and the NICU.

3. List potential benefits of milk sodium testing for clinicians and parents.

Sharon Perrella

About the Speaker

Sharon Perrella is a Research Fellow with the Centre for Human Lactation Research and Translation, and the Geddes Hartmann Human Lactation Research Group at The University of Western Australia. With a clinical background in midwifery and neonatal intensive care nursing, Sharon has a special interest in preterm breastfeeding and milk production. Her current work focuses on the identification and clinical support of women at risk of breastfeeding challenges, and the implementation of evidence-based clinical lactation care strategies to support continued breastfeeding.
