Ms Katie Hinde

Founder of the blog "Mammals Suck... Milk!"  A Prof Katie Hinde is making lactation science popular with rising generations of parents, clinicians and academics. Associate Professor at the Center for Evolution and Medicine and the School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University, she directs the Comparative Lactation Laboratory at the California National Primate Research Center, She has also served on the Executive Council of the International Society for Research in Human Milk and Lactation.

A Prof Katie Hinde has attained international renown for her novel work on the evolutionary perspectives of mother's milk, focusing on the differences between species, as well as variation among individuals within a species. Her studies on humans, monkeys, cows, and rodents have revealed how the "biological recipe" of milk can differ for sons and daughters, and how milk influences infant behavior and temperament. Most recently, she has begun to explore the complex evolutionary dynamics among mothers, microbes, and babies.
