Does nipple cream help with pain?
Please note that Purelan™ is not licensed as a medical product for pain relief or designed for the therapeutic treatment of pain. For sore and cracked nipples Medela recommends Hydrogel Pads or Medela breast shells. If you are experiencing breast pain or other health problems, please seek advice from your medical practitioner. Purelan™ is formulated to provide fast relief from nipple soreness and dry skin.4-7
What makes Purelan™ hypoallergenic?
Purelan™ formulation has been developed to minimize its allergenic potential. Carefully controlling the levels of FLA (free lanolin alcohols) in lanolin can reduce skin reactions even among those who are already sensitive to lanolin. Research shows that reducing the FLA content to less than 3%, particularly when detergent residues have been removed from the product, reduces the incidence of positive patch-test reactions among lanolin-sensitive skin patients. With an alcohol fraction of less than 3% in Purelan™, the allergenic potential to lanolin alcohols, which is observed rarely, is reduced to an absolute minimum as per EP (European Pharmacopeia).
Purelan™ does not contain other additives that might cause a reaction, such as preservatives and fragrances. Additionally, Purelan™ is dermatologically tested. However, anyone with a known lanolin allergy should avoid using lanolin products, including Purelan™.

Purelan™ lanolin nipple cream provides fast relief for mums’ sore nipples and dry skin, and is safe for babies, with no need to remove before feeding. 4-7 The lanolin in our nipple cream is purified to remove impurities and pesticides, with no additives, preservatives and fragrance added.
Does Purelan™ lanolin cream have side effects?
Purelan™ lanolin cream is an ultra-pure, medical-grade lanolin formula. It is dermatologically tested to the highest industry standards – the European Pharmacopoeia Standard – and is hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin. However, if you or your children have a lanolin allergy, do not use this or any other lanolin cream.
When should I apply nipple cream?
Use Purelan™ at every feed to relieve soreness, moisturise, and protect your nipples and skin. There is no need to remove the lanolin cream before feeding your baby.
